Agreement reached on Leave of Absence Rule

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

The UTU General Committee reached an agreement with the Carrier to consolidate our Leave of Absence rule. This made the road agreement uniformly applicable to yard and hostling service. The agreement was ratified in each hub and non-merged territories with each Local Chairman that voted casting a vote in favor of adoption.

We picked the road rule, Article 12 of the system schedule, because it offers the most protection for members. In contract, Article 14 of the Yard Rule required the termination of anyone that does not report for service at the end of a leave of absence even if physically unable to do so.

Claims paid for March 2011

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

The file attached is a partial list of claims progressed by the UTU General Committee of Adjustment and paid on checks received by Claimants during March 2011. We are grateful to all who properly submit claims with detailed information to enable successful handling of agreement violations. We urge proper handling in line with Article 79 of the UTU Constitution and the on-property agreement. The file list can be viewed by clicking = 1103_Claim payments

Please note that the last column shows the pay period of allowance. Therefore, a date of 02/31/11 would have actually been on the check of 03/10/11.

UTU – Collective Bargaining Defense Fund

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

The Executive Board of the Missouri Pacific Upper Lines General Committee (GO-569) approved, by a unanimous vote, a contribution made to the UTU Collective Bargaining Defense Fund. Contributions to this fund are necessary to fight the onslought of anti-union legislation, both in the Federal Government and many States. Rights of all workers are at stake and we urge all members to personally donate.
